Nestled between Nottingham, Peterborough and Leicester, Grantham is a town that blends rich history with contemporary charm. The birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton, Grantham is in easy reach of the A1 and combines accessibility with a small town feel that belies its proximity to local cities.

Getting Around Grantham

Grantham is designed for easy navigation. It has a well-connected public transport system and there are plenty of accessible solutions to getting around the local area. Buses, equipped with ramps and kneeling actions, and priority seating for seniors or those with disabilities are available. Plus, the extensive network of services covers most routes within the town.

For those looking to explore the towns and cities beyond Grantham, Grantham railway station (NG31 6BT) connects nearby towns and destinations further afield. The station has bench seating to accommodate people with limited mobility, as well as step-free access to all platforms. Wheelchair assistance is available too, but it is best to book this in advance.

Additionally, Grantham has a great mobility and lifestyle equipment shop (NG31 6EE) in the town centre. It’s also worth checking out Grantham Area Community Transport, which is a volunteer car scheme that offers a service for people requiring assistance with transportation who cannot use public transport. You can call them on 01476 978916 or email them at: gact@Granthamact.co.uk.

Exploring Grantham’s Outdoors

Grantham offers a huge range of outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike. To the North of Grantham town, Wyndham Park (NG31 9BB) is a delightful destination for a leisurely day out. The River Witham should not be missed either, and Wyndham Park provides gentle riverside paths for observing the local flora and fauna here. Whether you take to the park on foot, using a wheelchair, or a mobility scooter, the park has accessible pathways and if you take a picnic, can be a great place to while away a sunny day.

For enthusiasts of great architecture with beautiful botanical gardens, Belton House and Gardens (NG32 2LS) is a must-visit. This Grade I listed building is part of the National Trust, and hosts silver, fine art, and other treasures. The Dutch and Italian themed gardens are a wonderful space to visit if you love getting close to nature. Not only that, but the cafe there is highly rated.

For architectural enthusiasts, Grantham boasts the stunning St Wulfram’s church, which boasts the second highest spire in Lincolnshire. This Grade I listed building is described as one of England’s best churches, and is well worth a visit.

However, many local residents believe that one of the best places to visit in the local area is Harlaxton Manor (NG32 1AG). The formal gardens here were created to be an integral part of this stately home. Highlights include unique walks, a stunning conservatory and a 6.5 acre walled Garden. This is the largest in Britain. There are also events taking place throughout the year at Harlaxton Manor, and you may be interested to know that some creative films have been set here in this unforgettable country house.

Activities for Inclement Weather

When weather conditions are less than ideal, Grantham offers a range of indoor pursuits. The Guildhall Arts Centre (at St Peter’s Hill, Grantham NG31 6PZ) offers the local community an innovative calendar of stimulating art experiences.

While it is predominantly used for bringing professional theatre productions to local residents, there are a range of amateur theatre shows that tread the boards here. Not only this, the Arts centre is a workshop hub, offering a range of arts-related workshops for a range of age groups.

Entertainment in Grantham

The Savoy Cinema (St Catherine’s Rd, Grantham NG31 6TT) brings the latest films to the residents of Grantham. Its building, toilets and screens are wheelchair accessible, and audio descriptions for the hard of hearing are available. Not only this, but assistance dogs are welcomed.

Grantham Museum (St Peter’s Hill, Grantham NG31 6PY) is also a great place to visit when the weather is not great. It contains the public library for the area as well as bringing Grantham’s extensive heritage to life through digital and physical exhibitions.

Social skills and workshops in Grantham

A good social life can really make a difference to your quality of life at all ages but perhaps especially as you get older. Grantham, to this end, plays host to many opportunities for older people to meet new people and learn new skills. For example, the Grantham senior citizens community centre (Welham St, Grantham NG31 6QU) hosts a variety of different events. There are activities planned four days per week and this has helped to build a thriving senior community.

Shopping in Grantham

In the centre of Grantham lies the Isaac Newton Shopping Centre (NG31 6EE). This contains the usual shops that you would expect on most high streets, but also a covered area, meaning you can escape any inclement weather. The George Shopping centre, on High Street is also worth visiting. However, Boundary Outlet (NG32 2AB) is perhaps Grantham’s most well-known shopping centre. As an outlet centre, you can get some great bargains on High Street and designer names.

Eating out in and around Grantham

There are plenty of restaurants and places to eat and drink in Grantham and a few great places just a little out of town too. The Tollemache Arms, (NG33 5SA) is based in the nearby village of Buckminster and provides a great atmosphere and tasty food.

In Great Gonerby (NG31 8JS), Harry‘s place, whilst only accommodating 10 guests at a time, is a great long running restaurant similar to dining in someone’s living room. It has been in the area for over 30 years. At one point, Harry’s even held a Michelin star. This experience is great if you are looking for a meal with a difference.

If you prefer a bit of spice, then Gurkha Square, located on Wharf Road (NG31 6BA) is a surefire hit. Offering Nepalese and Indian cuisine, it is highly rated and the prices are reasonable too.

Meet our Amazing Team

Our management team in Grantham works tirelessly to support the carers. Find out more about them and how they can support you on a day-to-day basis.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this agency. This is the second agency I have tried and after an initial hiccup, mum is now settled with two capable compassionate carers in whom I have total confidence.
The cost of live-in care is very similar to care in a residential home but with the advantage of 1 to 1 care. Who wouldn’t want this level of care for themselves or their loved one?

This facility looked after my bed-ridden 98-year-old mother. From the initial interview to the visiting carers, everything was professional, but also friendly and understanding. Ten out of ten all round. Highly recommended.

I would definitely recommend this company as the carers are amazing and lovely. The management is fantastic, and any problems are sorted straight away. Best care company I have ever had.
